A Fortunate Event for Young Readers: GalleyCat is reporting that a new series from Daniel Handler (a.k.a. Lemony Snicket) will debut in 2012. In a statement, publisher Megan Tingley gushed about the upcoming launch:

"While I wish I could tell you more, I'm afraid I have been sworn to secrecy, but trust me: These will be highly inventive and entertaining works that will enthrall Lemony Snicket's legions of fans as well as firmly establish Mr. Handler as a force to be reckoned with in the world of young adult literature."

Talkin' Vampires with Oprah:  Twilightauthor Stephenie Meyer is breaking her self-imposed media silence to appear on the Oprah Winfrey Show this Friday.  "I've been doing the hermit thing this last year, insofar as media is concerned, and I'm not changing that now, but I am making an exception," Meyer stated on her website.  "I'm doing this for a good reason: I am so pleased and amazed and thrilled with what Chris Weitz has done with 'New Moon' that I want to talk about it, and to show my support for him. And since I'm only doing one interview, better make it big. Really big."
